From the West: After you cross the Dalton Town line, continue East, You will come to an intersection with two traffic lights, one after another. Q. How do I obtain a burning permit? Burning is only allowed between January 15 - May 1. To obtain a burning permit you must go to the Dalton Fire Station. Burning permits cost $5.00 per season. At this time you will receive a set of burning regulation. Burning is allowed between the hours of 10am - 4pm. YOU MUST CALL IN EVERY DAY YOU ARE GOING TO BURN.

Q. What number do I call for a medical emergency? 9-1-1 for all Emergencies. All Emergency calls in Dalton are answered by the Dalton Communications Center, which is located at the Fire Station. The Dispatch Center will immediately send help. The Police Department is full time, The Fire and Ambulance personnel are Volunteers. They have to drive from their houses and make take a little longer. The dispatcher may ask for information, please answer the questions, do not hang up the phone until the dispatcher states its ok.

What an EMERGENCY is!! You should only dial 9-1-1 to SAVE A LIFE, STOP A CRIME. Seeing a lost dog, needing directions, wanting to report a past crime, to report the power is out, is NOT and Emergency.

Q. Can I dial 9-1-1 on my Cellular Telephone? If you press 9-1-1 on you cell phone you WILL NOT get Dalton Dispatch. If you are in Dalton or Berkshire County you will get the Massachusetts State Police Dispatch Center in Northampton, Ma. They will ask what Town you are from and what the emergency is. They then will transfer you to the appropriate town, Which in this case is Dalton.

Q. My smoke detector is making an intermittent beep, What should I do? First of all if you have any doubt, call the Fire Department. Usually when a smoke detector beeps intermittently, it means you need to Change your battery(s), Or it is time for a new detector.
